Footnapkin

Footnapkin [foot*nap-kin]
-noun

1.  a nonsensical word for a cleaning device for ones foot.
Please use the footnapkin before you come inside.

2.  a very logical description of the use of ones foot to "clean" up spilt milk.
"Look, Mommy!  Hudson's clenaing up the milk with his footnapkin."

Lovely.

Three

There are so many fun - and challenging - aspects of having a 3 year old.  He's super inquisitive, soaks every bit life up like the proverbial sponge, and sometimes I can't help but giggle with some of his "Garrett-isms".  And, because my brain is often mush and I know I won't remember these in a few years - or 20 - here is a list of my favorites.

Cob-a-dopter (helicopter)
va-lell-a (vanilla)
not very so much
zoomie-zoomie  (umi-zoomie...a show he likes)
Garrett take care of it  (usually referring to when he's trying to fuss at Hudson or one of the dogs.  I usually say, "Mommy will take/took care of it.  You don't need to worry about it."  He thinks otherwise.)
me do it  (self-explanatory!)
o-ba-skay (spaghetti)
o-ba-jay (peanut butter & jelly
bruh-lell-a  (umbrella)
"I fink it's not"/ "I fink so", etc.
nim-nims (M&Ms)
"I don't ma-member"  (remember)
lasterday (as in, YESterday)
to-later/to-now (use in a sentence?  Absolutely.  "No, Mommy.  I don't want to go to bed tonowToooolaaaater."

When he grows up and is a superhero, he'll ______________

He loves to stand on the bottom of the grocery cart with one arm over the basket and hang on like a trash man.

And we can't forget about "Kelly".  "Kelly" is his imaginary friend (she's been around since last fall or so and we think she derives from his babysitter from Baltimore's little girl).  She'll show up alot around here, I'm sure!!   Anyway, I definitely use her existence to my benefit..whenever he doesn't want to do something (ie brush his teeth, eat dinner, etc), all I have to do is say, "Okay, Kelly.  Let's go brush your teeth."  He'll come running, with a huge grimace.  "NO, KEL-LY!"  Then he'll look at me and say, "I'm mad at her."  hee hee hee
(And total sidenote...I'm watching Ellen while I'm finishing this blogpost, and just after I started this paragraph, she started one of her games and the first contestant's name?  Kelly!)  =)

And as cute as all 'Garrett-isms' are, my favorite has to be when he says, "Mommy?  I love you.  You're my bestest Mommy ever."  Ahhh....yes, dear.  You may have whatever your little heart desires.

My friend, Kara

Now that I've finally started a blog, I'm able to participate in different link-up parties on blogs I've followed (and enjoyed!) for a while.  I've visited Kelly's Korner -www.kellyskornerblog.com - for a while.  She reminds me of a lot of the people I went to Carson-Newman with and, while we probably wouldn't have been close friends in real life since I can't quite see her having attended our "gatherings" on Martha Glass or drive thru's at The Monument, now that we're in the same season of life, I can definitely relate to most of her posts and enjoy reading her blog.

Anyway, Kelly does a "Show us your Life" linky-thing most weeks . . . and this week is "Show Us Your Singles".  And, immediately, my friend Kara came to mind.

(I've hijacked these photos from her facebook account . . . but I did ask for permission!) =)

(She's the one on the left)  =)

Kara is a 36 year old elementary teacher, lives in Atlanta, and knows what she wants in life.

She's caring, gives her all in everything she does, athletic, and her ONLY downfall is that she's a UNC fan.  ;)  But, even I can overlook that one flaw.

She's an amazing friend, a complete goof (in a good way!), and loves to laugh.

(And obviously a great person, if she doesn't kill me for this pic!) ha! =)

Kara loves her Jesus, has served as a missionary, and is waiting patiently for her Mr Right.  She has a great zest for life, and deserves only the best.

If you have someone you think might be interested in this great catch, leave me a message and I'll pass his info along!

Birthday Party, Take 1

We had Hudson's first first birthday party on Saturday night in Barren Springs at Tony & Connie's and had a wonderful time!

Just as we were loading the cars at Mom's, the skies opened up and as we fielded calls from most of the party guests asking if the party was still on (seriously?  The Evanses cancel a party?  What??) we finally got loaded and were on our way.

By the time we got over the mountain, the rain had almost stopped and the unloading process was much drier than the loading.

Rich got the grill started while we set up...

...and posed for some pictures.

The big boys hit the creek....

...while Hudson practiced his flying technique...

...and then posed for a few pictures, himself.

After we ate, the big boys moved on to the sand pile, where absolutely no one would have even thought of throwing sand...

...before being forced to stop for a group picture.

And then, it was time for the cake!

The wild man did not disappoint.

After the cake, an impromptu bath was in order...

...as well as miscellaneous icing removal...

...and then it was creek time again.

"Queen Prince Garrett" joined in the fun - after falling in first!  (The crown came from a birthday party we went to earlier in the day.  He refused to take it off, and renamed himself Queen Prince Garrett.  Whatever, Little man.  You're cute.)  =)

Then, it was time to watch an ugly duck...

...eat Doritos.

Apparently you must be quiet to watch said ugly duck eat Doritos.

After a change of clothes, there was a bon fire...

...some mischievous grinning...

...and a little tricycle riding.

We had a wonderful evening, and I am still in awe that my baby is already ONE!!!  How did that happen so fast?!

Hudson is 1!!!

Hudson, you are ONE YEAR OLD!!!

365 days ago you came into my life and it has never been the same!!  We love you more than words and cannot begin to imagine our lives without you!

What you're up to these days -

* You weigh around 20 pounds (we don't go to the doctor until mid-July, so we'll have an exact weight and height then)

* You wear mostly 12 month clothes and a size 4 diaper.

* You are the most amazing sleeper ever created.  You take a 2-3 hour nap every afternoon and sleep 10-12 CONSECUTIVE hours every night.

* You are an awesome eater!  You will eat almost anything, but especially love all fruits, Cheerios, and anything your brother has.  If we don't give it to you, you throw a fit.

* You love, Love, LOVE your brother!  You squeal when you see him first thing in the morning or after naptime, and you are never far behind him.

* You have blondish hair and bright blue eyes.  (yay!!)

* You LOVE the dogs' water bowl.  This drives me CA-RAAA-ZY!!

* You are a climber!!  And you are into EVERYTHING!!!  You climb stairs like a champ - even though we don't have any; we find you perched on the end table multiple times a day; you can climb onto the chair in the toy room, but can't get back down; the (stone!!) hearth is a favorite perch.  I can't turn around without you finding something else to climb!

* You are the happiest little guy and can light up a room with your smile.

* You say "nuh-nuh-nuh" and we're pretty sure that means "no, no"; "ma-ma-ma" and "da-da-da".  Sometimes you'll make a "gah" sound - I wonder if you're trying to say Garrett.

* You give the best open-mouth, slobbery kisses!

* You've never taken a pacifier, but still love your fingers.

I remember wondering, before you were born, how I could ever begin to love someone as much as we loved Garrett.  And then, you took your first breath.

I can't wait to watch you grow, and see the man you'll become.  But I also wish i could stop time and keep you little.  I can't believe how quickly the past year has gone and know that the next time I look up, you'll be turning 2.  I try to treasure each moment . . . the monumental, and the mundane.

I love you, Monkey.  Don't ever lose that smile . . . but just stop growing up so fast!

Nine

Nine.  Nine times- today alone - I removed my 11 1/2 month old child from his perch atop the end table.  Sitting or kneeling under the lamp shade to where it resembled a hat.

He's quickly giving himself his own nickname...Monkey.  He climbs on EVERYTHING.  And that's not an exaggeration.  Today was the end table.  And the couch.  And the love seat.  And the step stool.  Two steps up.  WHILE I WAS STANDING ON IT!!!

The child will be the death of me.  And I feel certain, our first ER trip.  =/

The Big Bad Wolf

My first post as a first-time blogger!!

And the perfect example of why I'm (FINALLY) doing this.  While I thoroughly enjoy a multitude of crafts, I CAN NOT make myself enjoy scrapbooking.  Time, however, seems to be speeding up and before I know it my boys will be grown and I'll be too old to remember these "good ole" days.  Even - and maybe especially - the trying ones.

So, without further adieu, my scrapbook-able (totally a word.  Promise.) memory from this afternoon...

Garrett (3) has been having some issues recently with talking back.  We've been working on it, but most days it's a struggle.  This afternoon was one of those times.  He was talking back - about what, I can no longer remember (see??!  THAT is why I need a place to write this stuff down!!!) and I'd had enough.  I pointed to the front door and said "Go!".  (Side note: there is a large piece of rug in front of the door which has been his chosen 'time-out' spot.  I wasn't telling him to get out of the house or anything.  I'll wait until he's at least 13 to do that.  Kidding!!)  ANYWAY, he didn't want to go and just stood there and stared at me.  I started to get up off the floor (where I happened to be playing with Hudson) and he took off.  Smart boy.

So, he heads into the foyer where he proceeds to stop walking, turn around, and - with his hands on his hips - squinches (yes, Blogger!  That IS a word!!) up his face and states, "NO!  I'm a Big Bad Wolf! I'll huff, and puff and I'm gonna' blow your house down!!"

I could do nothing but stare.  And then?  Yes, he did.  He growled at me.

Needless to say, the next 3 seconds as he walked/stomped/marched to his time-out rug were the only effective 3 seconds of that discipline.  As soon as he turned around, sat down, and saw me laughing across the living room he knew he was home free.

And he was.
